Aljamain Sterling injured, bout with Assuncao postponed

Aljamain Sterling is out of his upcoming bout at UFC Fight Night 102.

The New York native was expected to face #3 ranked bantamweight Raphael Assuncao in Albany next month but an injury forced him off the card. The UFC announced that Assuncao opted to wait for his opponent to recover and the bout has been postponed to a later card as a result.

Sterling (12-1) is coming off of the first loss of his professional career in a split-decision defeat to Bryan Caraway at UFC Fight Night 88. Prior to that, he was a perfect 4-0 in the UFC with the last three wins coming by way of stoppage.

Assuncao (23-5) is coming off of a decision loss to former champion TJ Dillashaw at UFC 200. The bout, which snapped his seven-fight win streak, was his first in two years after he sat out due to multiple injuries.

UFC Fight Night 102 takes place on December 9, one day before UFC 206, and will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Derrick Lewis and Shamil Abdurakhimov.
