The UFC has signed former Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov, the promotion announced. The 27-year old is expected to make his debut against Timothy Johnson at UFC Fight Night 99 in November.
Volkov (26-6) last fought for Bellator in 2015 when he faced Cheick Kongo and lost a unanimous decision. After that, he signed with M-1 Global and fought twice in Russia where he won back-to-back stoppage victories including a submission of Denis Smoldarev and a knockout against Attila Végh.
His opponent, Johnson (10-2), recently had an eight-fight win streak snapped in a decision loss to Jared Rosholt at UFC Fight Night 73. His latest fight is a unanimous decision win over Marcin Tybura last April. Nine of his ten victories have come by way of stoppage.
UFC Fight Night 99 is set to take place on November 19 at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Ireland. The event will be headlined by welterweights Gunnar Nelson and Dong Hyun Kim. Also on the card is a flyweight bout between Neil Seery and Ian McCall.
