Alexander Gustafsson set to return against Jan Blachowicz at UFC Hamburg

Two-time light-heavyweight title challenger Alexander Gustafsson will be making his return to competition this September against Jan Blachowicz, the UFC announced Friday.

Gustafsson (16-4) has not fought since his title fight against Daniel Cormier last year in October meaning that he will have been out of competition for nearly a year by the time he faces Blachowicz. The 29-year-old Swede gained most of his popularity when he gave Jon Jones a run for his money as a heavy underdog coming into their Fight of the Year bout in 2013. Following the loss, Gustafsson faced Jimi Manuwa in the main event of UFC Fight Night 37 in London and won the bout via TKO in the second round, which is his most recent victory.

Following a five-fight win-streak under Polish MMA promotion KSW, Jan Blachowicz (19-5) was signed by the UFC and faced Ilir Latifi in his debut. Blachowicz won the bout via TKO just over a minute into the opening round, extending his winning streak to six straight. After that, he suffered two back-to-back unanimous decision losses to Jimi Manuwa and Corey Anderson. In his latest bout, Blachowicz beat Igor Pokrajac via decision at UFC Zagreb in April.

UFC Fight Night 93 will take place in Hamburg, Germany at the Barclaycard Arena on September 3. The event will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between long-time veterans Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett.
